Astonishing Aspirations: Rainforest Project
5 – 29 May 2011
Astonishing Aspirations: Rainforest Project presents an exhibition of prints by pupils from Deanshanger Primary School. Working in collaboration with print maker Nicola Griffiths, a group of sixty Year Four pupils experimented with mono, block and silk-screen printing techniques alongside a variety of mark making implements to create intensely vivid rainforest images.
Inspired by a trip to The Living Rainforest, Newbury in February 2011, the project was designed to equip pupils with an understanding of basic printing techniques. It encouraged them to explore sensory experiences, textures and shapes, develop descriptive language, expand their vocabulary around geometric shapes and patterns, value team work, share skills and experiment.
Griffiths worked in partnership with teachers and pupils to deliver a young people-led project in which they were invited to seize initiative, make independent decisions about their work and form opinions about the purpose of an art gallery and the way in which they wanted their artwork to be displayed.
Rainforest Project forms part of Deanshanger Primary School’s Astonishing Aspirations Creative Partnerships project. It aims to broaden horizons, enrich learning and significantly raise aspirations among pupils by investigating art forms that can inspire young people to accomplish something they never thought possible.
Deanshanger Primary School is a Creative Partnerships ‘Change School’. Astonishing Aspirations is a Creative Partnerships project delivered in collaboration with The Mighty Creatives.
