The Art of Outdoor Learning
3 - 25 February 2017 / Admission free
Preview: Thursday 2 February / 6-8pm / All welcome
Curated by Wiltshire-based visual artist James Aldridge, this exhibition is a celebration of outdoor learning. It is the culmination of a year-long residency with MK Gallery, at the heart of which has been collaboration with local school children as well as families, across the seasons, to explore green spaces.
Alongside James’ own practice - which explores his and others' bodily and perceptual relationship to their natural and cultural heritage - this exhibition presents the journey of Green Town Group, an exciting pilot programme of artist-led activity designed to test new approaches to outdoor learning in relation to contemporary arts practice.
The Art of Outdoor Learning seeks to place the learning of those children and families involved in Green Town Group, within the wider context of James’ place-based practice, and the national picture of primary art education and outdoor learning.
James works across the UK, developing and facilitating socially engaged arts projects with a range of partners, using making as a tool for exploring the relationship between oneself and one’s natural and cultural environment.
