Artist Film Screening

Selected Films by Katy Howkins

Thursday 4 August / From 6.30pm (20 min. duration, looped) / Free

Katy Howkins' work explores communication, voice and silence. The artist is intrigued by what it is that we choose to reveal and conceal from ourselves and others. Recent works have evolved from an investigation into the lives of people who work alone. Individuals were contacted online and questioned about their personal experiences of working alone.

In correspondence with a detective, a park warden, a science fiction writer and a truck driver amongst others, the artist acts as director requesting information and artefacts from these people’s daily lives. Departing from research and communications, a series of works has emerged that explore aloneness, internal dialogue and silence. Howkins works with video, sound, drawing and collage.
