Thursday Scratch Nights

Live Music Night

Jerico Orchestra, January 2011

Live Music Night

Jerico Orchestra / Birdengine / Infinite Light / Duke of Zuke / The Royal Son Alliance

Thursday 1 September / Doors 6.45pm, first performance 7.15pm / Free

Jerico Orchestra is a collective of musicians and sound artists dedicated to exploring the relationship between visual art and music. Its aim is to encourage its participants to interact in radically different ways by expanding both the concept and form of a musical score. Member of Jerico Orchestra include: Pete Jones (slides & visuals), Graham Mackeachan (double bass), Lol Coxhill (Soprano Saxophone) and Adam Bohnam (Prepared Strings and Amplified Objects).

Birdengine is the musical project of Lawry Joseph Tilbury, whose unique music has been described by The Independent as 'beautiful, backwards weirdness' and by WARP Records as “an unknown supernatural force". Tilbury is a true pioneer in the music world, despite every new recording heralding a marked shift in style and delivery, his unique 'Birdengine' sound always remains identifiable. Live, Birdengine accompanies his truly unique voice with purposefully plucked nylon guitar, record crackle and noise. Sometimes playing solo and other times with collaborators, Birdengine has been privileged to play all over Europe alongside many incredible artists, including Josephine Foster, Herman Dune, Danielson and Shearwater.

Infinite Light is the nom de guitarre of Barry Dean, a musician and conduit from the post-industrial North-West, now located in London and mainlining the outsider blues a la Loren Connors, british pysch-folk of the early 70s, tape collage, and with the singing range of the last castrato, Alessandro Moreschi.

Scratch Night regular, Duke of Zuke, uses drones, guitar, loops, keyboards, tapes, samples, and other niceties to creates an intriguing world of  layered, lush, cinematic soundscapes that are as spooky and eerie as they are pretty. Imagine if Jonny Greenwood joined Mogwai and kicked out every other member. A new 5 track E.P entitled ' Apnoeic'  published on his own label, Zucchini Records, will be available on the night.

The Royal Son Alliance (AKA Dave Ronalds) plays psyched out, mesmeric and repetitive improvised guitar finger-picking, which probably has as much to do with Lee Renaldo, Loop and church bells as it has to do with Jack Rose and Robbie Basho.
