An irresistibly mysterious engineering student arrives and yields each member of his wealthy Milanese host family to his seductions. Upon his abrupt departure, the family experiences an unavoidable vacuum, embarking on a series of obscene lifestyle changes in order to deal with their loss. At the time, the film was praised for its refreshing depiction of European dissenters towards the state, with a suspicious tone towards the mysterious persuasions of religion.

Laura Betti as the family's maid won the "Best Actress Award" at the 1968 Venice Film Festival.
