Session 2: Wednesday 22 October, 7-9pm - Milton Keynes Arts Centre

Workshops for adults (18+)

Please note, participants must take part in both sessions. Please book a ticket for each session separately.

In preparation for November’s Project Space exhibition MK born artist Emily Shepherd invites individuals to register to take part in a series of free workshops hosted by MK Gallery and Milton Keynes Arts Centre. No previous experience of ceramics is necessary - each participant will be supported in the development and constructions of their ideas.

The programme celebrates MK’s red ziggurat, The Point Cinema Complex, and offers workshop participants the opportunity to contribute to exhibition content through the designing and making of ceramic souvenirs in homage to the iconic building. Finished objects will be displayed as part of the exhibition's make-shift souvenir shop, designed to encourage a nostalgic flashback to the early development of the UK’s first multi-screen cinema complex.

The first session includes an introduction to the project and a short, informal discussion on the point. You will start designing your souvenir in the first session and complete it in the second one.

Souvenir Point

Souvenir Point is a project by Milton Keynes born artist Emily Shepherd to celebrate The Point Cinema Complex.  The project provides a platform to consider the significance of The Point not only to Milton Keynes, but as a significant marker in British modern Architecture.  For one month in November, MK Gallery’s Project Space will embody Milton Keynes's persona as a shopping destination as it is transformed into a gleaming souvenir shop front in homage to The Point. Hosting an array of souvenirs, and a screening programme of films relating to the Point, the shop warmly invites residents of Milton Keynes to take a nostalgic look back at the iconic red ziggurat.

Video / Photos and Written Submissions

As part of the Souvenir Point screening programme, Emily Shepherd is looking for photographic, written and video accounts related to The Point. New material made specifically for this project is also welcome.  If you are unable to take part in the workshops but keen to still be involved dig out those early images and nostalgic memories  and send home movie footage, photographs or a story you'd like to share about the Point to Any questions relating to the project should also be directed to Emily Shepherd at this address.
