Building on the success of last December’s talks that accompanied the Future City exhibition, MK Gallery collaborates with The Fred Roche Foundation to host several more in the coming months, aiming to stimulate creative discussion and debate around subjects that are vital to the growth and vitality of Milton Keynes

This talk will focus on the role of innovative infrastructure - looking at two place-based approaches that could underpin a strategic and economic approach for the future, and facilitate a prosperous city region.

Speakers:

  • Pat Willoughby MA BTP MRTPI AOU, Planning Partner, Wei Yang & Partners
  • Pat will present their shortlisted submission for the 2014 Wolfson Economic prize submission that advocated an ‘arc of opportunity’’ beyond the London Green Belt stretching from Southampton, Oxford and Cambridge to Felixstowe, an area which is seen as the best location for the development of new garden cities.

  • Caryl Jones, Communications Manager, East West Rail Consortium
  • Building on the East West strategic corridor theme, Caryl will present a perspective on the East West rail upgrade and the work of the East West Rail Consortium and what this could means for economic growth in the region. This is one project that could really act as a catalyst for many of the city region aspirations.

  • Chair: Dr Ann Limb OBE DL, Chair of the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership. (SEMLEP)

The Fred Roche Foundation celebrates the life of Fred Roche (1931-1992), who led the team in the 1970s who built the new city of Milton Keynes.  The Foundation endeavors to keep his spirit of creative exploration, innovation and vision alive in Milton Keynes.

He believed in the power – or rather the duty – of architecture to improve society.  If Milton Keynes is one person’s creation, it was Fred Roche’s”.  (Stephen Bayley, The Guardian)
