Look at me: Fashion and Photography in Britain, 1960 to the present

14 July - 2 September 2001

Look at me: Fashion and Photography in Britain, 1960 to the present opens at MK Gallery on 14 July. It includes work by 36 photographers, many leading figures in the genre of fashion photography. It also examines the ways in which a wider range of photographers, some documentary and some editorial, have used clothes asicons of expression. The significance of the magazine page and the fashion spread areacknowledged, and material from documentary archives is incorporated.

Photographs by Cecil Beaton, Norman Parkinson, Terence Donovan, Helmut Newton, Nick Knight, Juergen Teller and 2000 Turner Prize winner Wolfgang Tillmans are included in the show. Visitors can re-examine fashion and photography from the Swinging Sixties to the Cool Nineties. Although separated by thirty years, these decades have many similarities - the current fascination with the fusion of fashion, design, music, film and art recurs in both.

Look at me, is a British Council exhibition, curated by Val Williams and Brett Rogers. MK G is the only venue in the UK for this exhibition, at the conclusion of its successful international tour.
