Current Project Space Exhibition

Images of India

Old Stratford Primary School

Until Sunday 31 March 2013

Over the last few months the pupils have been exploring a cross-curricular topic about India. In response to this theme, Year 4 and 5 pupils worked with Old Stratford School’s in-house artist Nichola Clarke to look in detail at the patterns, textures and vibrant colours that permeate Indian culture, exploring traditional textiles and the imagery and themes in Indian art and design.

“The children have loved learning about Indian culture, been totally inspired by Indian art and are very excited that their work is now on public display. We are very proud of their achievements and congratulate them on their success."  Gill Tween, Headteacher , Old Stratford Primary School

John Kirk storytelling in Campbell Park

Artist-led workshops for schools

We work with a range of artists from different arts disciplines to deliver workshops for schools, exploring our current exhibitions at MK Gallery in experimental and exciting ways, or developing bespoke workshops offsite in school settings that incorporate cross curricular themes.

Recently the story-teller and drama practitioner John Kirk visited Emerson Valley School for a workshop exploring their current theme of Heroes and Villains in which the children created their own superhero stories which they explored through drama and mask-making.  Jane Sullivan, Higher Level Teaching Assistant praised the sessions, saying John had “enabled the staff to be inspired and enthusiastic about delivering drama again!"

After School Art Clubs

Are you interested in working with us to organise an after-school art club at your primary or secondary school? The Art Club can run for 5 to 12 weeks, and is a fantastic way of enriching your creative learning offer to pupils. Artist Sian Griffiths recently completed a series workshops with the after-school art club at New Bradwell School and helped the pupils to create a colourful collaborative artwork inspired by the school’s windmill logo.

"We have really enjoyed working with Sian. The kids ideas were all incorporated into the design and they had loads of fun creating all the different elements. They are really proud of the finished art and it has really brightened up our school corridor."

Kate Crilly, Afterschool Club Coordinator, New Bradwell School

Outside of the Classroom

We ask that you encourage your learners to visit the gallery independently or with their families. To compliment the creative work you do within school, we programme a variety of exciting opportunities for families and young people to participate in. In addition, we are happy to link up with PTAs, family support groups and local Children’s Centres.

Call for Creative People

Have you or your students learnt or developed a new skill?  Have you created an individual or group piece of art that makes you especially proud or feel passionate about sharing?  MK Gallery’s Learning Team invites primary and secondary students, teachers and artists to nominate themselves to lead a Mini Makers Saturday session during MK Calling.  The main focus of these sessions is ‘family engagement’ and we are on the look-out for creative individuals and groups to skills-share and showcase their amazing talents, encouraging our family audiences to try their hand at something new. Successful applicants will be allocated a session fee and budget to programme their session.
