New Exhibition

Melanie Smith

Preview: Thursday 10 April / 6pm - 10pm / All welcome 


Although born in the UK, Melanie Smith moved to Mexico 25 years ago and has become one of their most celebrated contemporary artists. This is her first UK survey exhibition, with work from 1994 to the present day, including a new film, Fordlandia (2014), shot in an abandoned city and rubber plantation built in the Amazon in the 1920s by Henry Ford.

Smith's film Xilitla (2010) features Surrealist collector Edward James' architectural follies in the Mexican jungle. George Melly's documentary charts the life of the eccentric artistocrat, poet and Surrealist patron, from early days in Sussex through to Xilitla, his adopted home in Mexico.

12 April Lost Harbours, Muh-he-con plus more TBC Lost Harbours marry folk themes and song craft with the abstract possibilities of noise. Muh-he-con are a London based synth/guitar duo who play fluid, analog digipsych in the vein of Oneohtrix Point Never, Emeralds and Growing.


26 April Tombed Visions label night Manchester based Tombed Visions is the umbrella for the various musical endeavours of D McLean, with the label's aims to be productive, challenging and engaging. All releases from the label are hand-made and limited in quantity.
