MK Calling 2017 showcases new and exciting work by over 70 emerging and established artists.


As we prepare for our major expansion, this exhibition is designed to make the most of the makeshift qualities of the current building, giving behind-the-scenes access to the old workshop, loading bay, shop and storage spaces.

Exhibition Events

15 May / Visual Access Tour / Free / This friendly, informal exhibition tour is for blind and partially sighted visitors, as well as their carers, family members and friends. Pre-booking required.


20 May / Chalk Art-ing / Free / Participate in the creation of a collaborative artwork that interacts directly with the built environment of Milton Keynes. Led by artist Catherine Midwood.

Undercurrents, August - September 1979

Project Space

A Third Garden City

5 - 27 May / Admission free


This display includes copies of Undercurrents, the magazine of radical alternatives and community technology, which ran from 1972 - 1984. The journal, founded by Godfrey Boyle, Emeritus Professor of Renewable Energy at The Open University, will provide stimulus for cross-community and cross-generational discussion.

6 May / Azores, Drahla, Secret Flight / £5 in advance, £6 on the door / Azores occupy a unique space somewhere between afrobeat, psyche rock and post-punk, Drahla's songs exude a stripped-back post-punk menace, and Secret Flight is a melody-driven electronic music project. 


20 May / Emma Gatrill plus Leslie Deere / £6 in advance, £7 on the door / Gatrill is a harpist based in Brighton. Deere is a London-based artist working with a variety of media. This event is part of Museums at Night

Gongoozler: An artist residency and exhibition opportunity on the Grand Union Canal, Milton Keynes

Gongoozler has been created by the Canal and River Trust in celebration of Milton Keynes' 50th birthday. Visual or performance artists/collectives of emerging national significance are invited to apply. Deadline for submissions is 15 May. Find out more


Feast of Fire: Artists commissions for MK50 and City Club

Artists in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire are invited to submit ideas for commissions to animate Milton Keynes’ iconic porte cochère structures with fire, sound and music. Deadline for submissions is 4pm on 22 May. Find out more
