Artist Thom Rees with Two Mile Ash School pupils

Artist-led workshops for schools

We work with a range of artists from different arts disciplines to deliver workshops for schools, exploring our current exhibitions at MK Gallery in experimental and exciting ways.

Recently pupils from Two Mile Ash School visited MK Gallery and worked with MK Calling artist Thom Rees to explore the topic of ‘Seasons’ in relation to his own artistic practice in sculpture and printmaking. They created a forest of beautiful clay trees and colourful mono-prints. Talking about the visit, teacher Nyla Elahi commented ‘It was so refreshing to get out of the classroom and to see all the children animated and engaged.’

After School Art Clubs

Are you interested in working with us to organise an after-school art club at your primary or secondary school? An artist-led club is a fantastic way of enriching your creative learning offer to pupils, and can be adapted to incorporate themes and ideas from the wider curriculum.

Over the last two months, artist Dave Ronalds has been working with young people from Lord Grey School to explore themes from Andrea Büttner’s exhibition at MK Gallery following their visit earlier this term. Looking at the three areas of Methods, Materials and Meanings, the pupils have created their own symbols and developed them through the mediums of drawing, glass painting, embroidery, and printmaking with the series culminating in an art installation in the school!

Arts Award and Arts Mark

In addition to supporting children and young people with their Discover and Explore Arts Award schemes through our informal learning programme, we also work in collaboration with schools to provide resources, ideas and workshops linked to Arts Award and Arts Mark.

It was recently announced that the newly appointed regional Schools Liaison Manager for Artswork is Trevor Harris, a Milton Keynes based Educator who previously held the position of Arts College Manager at Stantonbury Campus.

If you have any questions about getting your school involved in Arts Award or Arts Mark, you can email Trevor directly: trevor@artswork.org.uk
