Hemmed In: Embroidery and Needlework from MK and Beyond

Preview / Christmas Party 14 December 5pm – 10pm


Hemmed In: Embroidery and Needlework from MK and Beyond presents work from the 1930s to the present by over fifty practitioners, organised with MK Embroiderers Guild and Jamie Chalmers, otherwise known as Mr X Stitch. Ranging from the local to the international, the exhibits include needlework through unusual media, techniques and unexpected subject matter.

Carolee Schneemann, Fuses

Video Space

This month's Video Space features the work of radical female artists in the 1960s and '70s who explored issues of female representation, power and identity. Artists featured include Carolee Schneemann, Yvonne Rainer and Lynda Benglis.


As some of the films include an element of nudity, parental discretion is advised.

How can we engage better with the local arts community? Members of staff from MK Gallery and other key cultural organisations in the area will be in attendance.


13 December / Improv Night

This event is an open session for musicians, sound artists and non-musicians who are interested in exploring improvisation and developing new musical relationships.


20 December / Speed Stitching with MK Embroiders Guild

Please note: this session starts 5.30 - 7.30pm 

This relaxed session will introduce you to needle and thread in 20-minute bursts.


27 December / Film: Handmade Nation

Handmade Nation documents the new wave of art, craft and design and is the feature film debut of director, author, artist and curator Faythe Levine.

3 Jan / Mr X Stitch introduces Craftivist Collective Jigsaw Project

Craftivist Collective's Jigsaw Project in support of Save The Children's Race Against Hunger Campaign.

Children and Families

This month in Mini Makers, explore new techniques in painting, transform materials into beautiful collages, create decorative sculptures and have a go at printmaking. Free, every Saturday from 1 - 3pm, ages 4+.


In Start the Art, our sessions for parents and toddlers, we'll be creating 3D sculptures, learning fun printmaking techniques and experimenting with plaster casting. Free, every Tuesday from 11am - 12noon.

Project Space Exhibition

MPs' Christmas Card Design Competition

7  - 30 December 2012 / Private View: 14 December / All Welcome


A display of the designs created by year 5 and year 6 primary school children in both Milton Keynes Parliamentary constituencies of MPs Mark Lancaster and Iain Stewart. The winner of the competition for each constituency will feature on the front of their respective MP's personal Christmas card.
