MK Gallery’s Head of Learning, Victoria Mayes, has been announced as one of five individual winners in this year’s Marsh Awards for Excellence in Gallery Education. The Awards, now in their fifth year, are funded by the Marsh Christian Trust and run by engage, the support and advocacy organisation for gallery education, whose mission is to increase access to the visual arts.

Since joining the gallery’s staff in 1999, Victoria has worked as both artist and educator, building a wealth of skills and experience relevant to the arts sector. She recently completed the Extend Leadership Programme and transitioned into a new role as Head of Learning, taking on further responsibility as engage South East Area Rep and co-chair of The Milton Keynes Creative Learning Network.

Whilst at MK Gallery Victoria has initiated and led a number of large-scale learning projects, including the peer-led Young People’s Project, and the development of MK Gallery’s highly successful Informal Learning and Early Years programmes. The Award provides Victoria with £500 to spend on her continuing professional development.

Commenting on Victoria’s Award, MK Gallery Anthony Spira said: “Victoria is passionate about the role that the arts can play in our everyday lives. We are truly delighted that her dedication and innovation has been recognised through this year’s Marsh Awards for Excellence in Gallery Education.”
