MK Gallery is offering five subsidised artist-led days in celebration of Children’s Art Week 2017 (10-18 June 2017). The Learning Team seek five MK primary schools interested in working with one of our Associate Artists to explore the relationship between outdoor learning, contemporary arts practice and the curriculum. This opportunity will bear reference to the 2016 project Green Town Group which culminated in the exhibition The Art of Outdoor Learning. The day will be tailored to the outdoor spaces in your school and you will be invited to select one KS 1 class to take part. A paired artist will work with the class to develop cross-curricular learning skills in observation, investigation, exploration and questioning, using art and the outdoor environment as a starting point. The day will also aim to support teachers in developing creative ways to enable children to lead their own learning in the outdoors.

Key dates include:

Wednesday 17 May

Teachers CPD session (half day) exploring outdoor learning led by 5x5x5=creativity at MK Gallery.

Monday 12 - Friday 16 June

One full day with your paired artist in school. Date to be agreed with each school individually.

I think it has shown me that some of my children are actually very articulate and creative, they just can’t always express it at school…these children may be stronger in practical activities. I love how the activities have been accessible to all, regardless of abilities.’ Teacher, Green Town Group 2016

MK Gallery is delighted to offer this opportunity at a significantly subsidised cost of £200 to five schools in celebration of Children’s Art Week 2017. This cost also includes the one half day, outdoor learning focused, Teachers CPD session led by 5x5x5=creativity, an independent arts-based action research organisation.

How to Apply

Please email Tara Page, Learning Manager, at with a short expression of interest outlining how this opportunity would benefit your school and pupils.
