Peter Gidal: Upside Down Feature (1967-72)

14 - 31 July 2014

A looped screening in the first floor Video Space throughout advertised gallery opening hours. Access via stairs or lift.

Seminal filmmaker and theorist, Peter Gidal’s Upside Down Feature combines footage shot over a number years that is abstracted, interrupted, solarised and layered with disassociated text to create a disorientating experience which challenged preconceived notions of film and linear narrative.

Born in 1946, Gidal studied Theatre, Psychology And Literature at Brandeis University and the University of Munich. He studied at the RCA in 168-71 where he went on to teach Advanced Film Studies until 1984. He was also an instrumental  member of the London Film Makers Co-op.
