Plans and Designs

Plans and visualisations of the emerging proposals for the MK Gallery expansion can be viewed in the Gallery entrance area. The newly expanded MK Gallery facilities will be:

  • High quality in their design and execution
  • Cost effective to run
  • Energy and maintenance efficient
  • Easy to use and fully accessible for visitors and staff
  • Flexible in their layout, allowing a variety of uses within each space and affording easy future adaptation.
  •

The project will provide adaptations to existing spaces and construction of new spaces as follows:

    Galleries

We will double the existing gallery space, creating a flexible suite of galleries to accommodate a rich variety of works, including vulnerable historic artworks. The gallery spaces will also be designed to accommodate corporate and private hire events.

    Cinema

Facilities for cinema, performances and events.

    Entrance foyer and bookshop

On entering the venue, visitors will encounter a welcoming information point with an expanded shop offer to complement the expanded programme.

    Bar/café

We will provide an informal social space immediately adjacent to the gallery entrance, with good visibility from the street, to include bar facility and high quality and independent food and drink provision.

    Learning Suite

A superb learning space will accommodate a wide variety of events and workshops.

    Reading/reflection area

Visitors will be able to relax and independently learn more about the exhibits and broader arts subjects in a dedicated study area.

    Workshop, store and delivery

To enable exhibitions of larger and more diverse artwork, new loading and access facilities, away from the main gallery entrance, will be provided.
