Platform 2017: Simon Harutyunyan

Simon Harutyunyan

31 August - 4 September 2017

Preview: 31 August / 6pm / All welcome

Simon Harutyunyan (born Plovdiv, Bulgaria, 1995) has just graduated from the University of Bedfordshire with a Photography and Video Art BA (Hons) degree.

In my photography patterns, textures, geometry are dominant, regardless of the subject in front of the lens. Light in my work is very important as I am working in monochrome to draw the viewers’ attention to the surface of the object or its geometry. I find beauty in simple things. Thing others might easily overlook.  For the past year, I have been working with plaster being cast in various organic and non-organic materials. The sculptures that come out of this interaction are what drive the photography. Each sculpture is self-made with very little human intervention in an attempt to capture something very natural. During the process of creating these sculptures “On not knowing” by Rebecca Fortnum has been a big inspiration, driving me to keep experimenting and push me forward.”
