Gilbert & George
The Rudimentary Pictures
Gilbert & George met at St Martin's School of Art in 1967 and have been working together for over 30 years. Since their beginnings as 'Living Sculptures' in the late 1960s, they have created a vast range of distinctive pictures that explore such themes as alienation, sex, race, religion and human existence. Although the content of their work is often considered shocking, they simply explore issues that reflect aspects of contemporary society and communicate honestly and directly with the viewer.
