Michael Craig-Martin

Surfacing

The art of Michael Craig-Martin (born Dublin, 1941) is one of maximum economy and maximum impact. He is widely known for his sweeping, brightly coloured canvases in signature hues that typically include magenta, cyan and iridescent lime, on to which float an evolving repertoire of objects sourced from the everyday; chairs, calculators, ironing boards, safety pins, tables. The art of drawing and the simple act of delineation play a key role in Craig-Martin's output.
