Anna Hester is a singer-songwriter from Milton Keynes. Her debut EP was released in 2014 and received praise from Paul Rawcliffe in Fatea Magazine (‘a powerful and confident voice that positively booms out songs’). She is excited to launch her second EP at MK Gallery.
Anna has performed widely across the south of England in intimate settings (Sofar Sounds, canal boats, cafés, pubs) and in bigger venues such as The Good Ship in Kilburn (London), Cambridge Junction, and Milton Keynes International Festival (2014, 2016, 2018). She has also performed in Berlin.
In 2016 Anna attended an Arvon songwriting course, where she received interest and encouragement from tutors Kathryn Williams and Samantha Parton (The Be Good Tanyas). Closer to home, Anna was also a songwriter for the project Great War Remembered MK.
Towards Today is the culmination of two years of reflection, work, and musical development. The EP is produced by fellow singer-songwriter Dan Wilde, whose sensitive investment in the record takes Anna Hester’s sound to a new level of maturity.
This intimate EP launch will be a chance to hear Anna Hester’s songs in stripped-back, acoustic form. CD copies of Towards Today will be on sale for the first time.
Anna Hester is delighted to welcome Chris Fox and Dawn Iverson as support acts.
Chris Fox transcribes songs of the human experience in a range of styles across the folk and roots spectrum. Writing and arranging songs using a new roots soundscape that encompass a cultural whiplash of folk (both trad & contemporary), americana, country, and blues.
Dawn’s music is heartfelt, genuine and powerful, exploring the full gamut of emotions and inspiring the same amongst her audience. Acoustic, indie folk with hints of Americana and country, this is not to be missed and if you get a chance to hear her, then you are lucky indeed.
