The focus of this exhibition in Gallery 2 (Middle Gallery) is the unlikely pairing of the 19th century French poet, Jules Laforgue (1860-1887) with the 20th century British artist Patrick Caulfield (b.1936), best known for his work as a Pop Artist.

This national touring exhibition from the Hayward Gallery presents 22 brightly coloured screenprints which are complementary images rather than illustrations of Laforgue’s text. The melancholy atmosphere of Caulfield’s interiors find a direct counterpart in Laforgue’s poetry.
